But what the manufacturer is not showing you is the bandwidth vs. Quality of bass and how well it integrates into a system is paramount. If I have to sacrifice a bit of extension and SPL to achieve this, so be it. The Set-Up I left my EP towards the left front corner behind my couch as it has been for the past 3 years. I placed one EP on top of it and the other EP diagonally located towards the back right of the room. Luckily the distance between both EP s was relatively equal to the primary listening area making it much easier to integrate them and not have to worry about bass cancellations due to mismanaged time alignment between the two subs. I checked the phase and found they integrated best with both subs set to 0 degrees default. I always recommend using symmetry when placing your subwoofers relative to the primary listening area. The Analysis When setting up subwoofers in a home theater system, I always measure the response to ensure I am at least in the ballpark for great bass.

Do you need really huge speakers, and are they worth it? Yes they are…at all costs. The bigger the better! Monstrous, gigantic speakers sitting three feet away from your face and pumping out dB of ear-bleeding sound is exactly what you need! Just ask your spouse or the person sitting next to you. They ran out of the room screaming?

Let me say right up front that you only need to read this article if you are lucky enough that your group is getting bookings in large or outdoor venues. But if you have a good set of main PA speakers that are starting to sound strained at those large gigs, you might want to think about a next logical step. You can send comments, questions, or scathing diatribes to Larry at lmundy attbi. As I said at the end of that article, the result worked great.

Hook up the amp and subwoofers. Run speaker wire from the amplifier to the subwoofers, making sure to keep positive inputs/outputs are connected properly. Connect fuse and battery.

How do you hook up an amp? Make sure that the power wire and aux cable are on opposite sides of the vehicle for less distortion and interference. MORE How can you hook up another amp to your sub amp for your 6×9? You would bridge the amps, it will cut into your power, but that’s how you do it. This is not recommended because you take a pretty big risk of blowing both of your amps.

MORE How can I hook up an amp and a sub to a stock stereo with no rca jacks without buying a new head unit? Well if you got any old “RCA” cables what i would do is cut the end off of one and wire it to the back speakers and then you plug them in to the amp and then hook up the power supply for your amp and then connect your subs and that should work??? A typical Head Unit will push between 10 and 50 watts to each speaker, while the RCA inputs on your Amplifier will only take about 3.

In Stereo World, this is called “Input Voltage. What you are looking for, friend, is commonly called a “Knockdown,” or a “Step-Down-Converter. This unit will be about 3″x3″x6” and will have RCA outputs on the back of it to hook up to your amp.

So far, I have only been able to use it once. Good support for bass guitar for the multipurpose room we were playing. The one sub handled my band nicely. The agreement was that the client “keeps” the system at their facility until their contract is up. The contract is for 12 months.

I was thinking about this: Hook up the subs to amp and then hook up the amp to a car battery (just like in a car). Of course I know that I have to run a small wire from the + of the battery to the remote on input on the amp.

So what will we need to do this? But I doubt any of you guys will be using an amp that big. Walmart sells amplifier kits as do some other stores. The kits tell you how many watts they can handle. Add Tip Ask Question Step 2: Choosing an Amp and Speaker This can be a tricky step. You want to choose a speaker and amp that put out the most power, without blowing each other. What you want is the RMS of both the subwoofer speaker and the amplifier to be as close as possible.

The RMS is the amount of power a speaker can continuously have sent to it without going bad.

Ask Question Step 3: I decided to not cut up my PSU cables as i may need the computer it came from at some point, you will need to find the pins shown in the pic, they are on the connector that was originally on your motherboard, the cables should be green and black, any black ground connector will do the trick. I have a much better understanding of ohm cooking. I have two combo amps. One is a Fender Superchamp X2. The one speaker out jack that the internal speaker is connected to says Minimum 8 ohms. The other amp is a Vox AC10 with a speaker out jack of 16 ohm. I found the Bugera TS On the back it has a 4ohm mono jack and a 16ohm mono jack. I know the Vox will work best through the 16 ohm mono jack.

I think the Fender would work fine going to one of the jacks with the stereo switch engaged knowing that the output would only come through one of the speakers. I think… Could I reasonably connect the Minimum 8 ohm out from the Fender to one of the mono 4 or 16 ohm jacks. The article intimated that it would be ok. Which would be better and why? Also, you mentioned several times in comments that folks should be careful or to take it easy when trying mismatched options.

Whether you have a powered or passive sub, you’ll need to get it connected to your amplifier for it to work. This is a line level connection, which means it is not amplified. This connection is useful for powered subwoofers only. Connect using speaker wire.

If you have a passive sub or your amplifier lacks a “Sub Out” jack, you can connect the amplifier and subwoofer like you’d connect two speakers. Use the Main Left and Right speaker output terminals on the amplifier and connect to the subwoofer’s speaker inputs. Be sure that the polarities of each individual wire strand are the same. If you used the method in step two, wire the left and right speakers using the left and right speaker outputs on the subwoofer.

The signal will be routed from the amplifier through the subwoofer and to the main speakers. Adjust your stereo settings. If you used a “Sub Out” jack, be sure that the subwoofer is on. Set speaker size to large and adjust crossover frequencies to desired levels if you used speaker level connections.
